Storage space is the second most appealing feature for potential homebuyers according to the authors of Home Staging for Dummies. There are so many reasons why one needs to create space in your home. It just looks tidier, cleaner and more spacious without all the extra items laying or standing around. Sometimes it’s easier said than done!
Here are a few quick tips on creating more storage space in your home:
- Closets. I know you are thinking that you do use your closet space, but go look again and you’ll see the spaces you have left open or used poorly. Look at the gap between the shoes and the hanging pants. It is easy to do a closet makeover and it is not expensive, make sure that you make use of every open space.
- Toddler’s room. Tired of all the toys standing around in your house. Storing toys can be done easily. Example of items you can use include empty plastic containers, laundry hampers and bags, big packing boxes that you can dress up in colourful wrapping paper, play pens and toy chests.
- Garage. There is so much unused space in a garage, and because it is so large and protected it is perfect for storing items. Ideas include shelving units, utility cabinets, peg hooks as well as wall and rafter hangers. Just think of all the space you can save!
- Basement. Before using your basement to store goods you need to organize the space so it can be used effectively. Installation of space-saving shelves is very helpful and it is very important to recognize and tackle moisture problems.
- Self storage units. More often then not we need to make use of storing facilities. Reasons include moving, renovating or building, travelling and divorce. This can be inconvenient and expensive if you do not use the right company. Make sure you do your homework on these facilities in your area and that you find a place that suits your needs.
